Ferruccio Lamborghini, founder of the high-performance car company that bears his surname, built tractors before he built sports cars. So it shouldn?t be a surprise that Lamborghini has been working on a sports utility vehicle, the Urus, which is now in the prototype stage awaiting the go-ahead for production. Bentley has a truck in the works too, the EXP 9 F Concept. Even Maserati has announced plans to build the elusive Kubang (or something like it). Luxury has been spilling into the SUV and pickup truck arena for years, and it doesn?t appear that high fuel costs or economic woes are dampening interest in feature-laden trucks with big price tags. We?ve looked over the facts and figures, and we?ve compiled a list of The Most Expensive Trucks Of 2012.

When we use the word ?trucks,? we mean pickup trucks and full-size SUVs. We?ve collected the top five most expensive full-size SUVs and the top five most expensive pickup trucks for this list of The Most Expensive Trucks Of 2012. We considered vehicles based on their Manufacturer?s Suggested List Price, not including destination charges, transportation, dealer fees, tax or licensing. If a package of options, like a diesel engine and associated transmission, increased the MSRP, we included that, and we also considered trim-level packages. We did not factor in optional equipment or other add-ons ? all of the vehicles on this list come very well-equipped as priced, but prices could easily skyrocket if all factory options and dealer-installable features were selected (llama fur tonneau cover, anyone?).

The overwhelming ?winner? of Most Expensive Truck is the Land Rover Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate Edition, which tips the cash scales at $170,000. Only 500 examples will be built this year, complete with all the usual Range Rover features like a 510 horespower V-8 engine, power everything, swanky interior materials and other luxury appointments. The Ultimate also gets a leather headliner, teak wood and Kalahari wood trim, polished stainless steel fittings, an iPad integrated into the back of the front headrest, special colors and 20-inch multispoke wheels.

The Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG is based on the 33-year-old Gelandewagen design. Mercedes-Benz performance division, AMG, has done its magic on the G-Class, amping up the already expensive $113,000 G550 to a turbocharged $134,300 monster on wheels, driven by a 536 horespower 6.3-liter V-8. AMG starts with a G-Class shell, then puts in its own hand-built engine that is signed by the single man who handcrafted it in the Affalterbach plant. There?s even a G65 AMG available in other parts of the world, a V-12-powered off-roader that puts out 612 horespower, enough to power through almost any shopping center parking lot.

The Ram 3500 Crew Cab Laramie Limited 4?4 managed to top the pickup truck price list at $61,030 when equipped with the Cummins 6.7-liter turbo diesel engine option. The Cummins engine is a Common Rail Diesel with six cylinders in-line ? a well-tested design that produces 350 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. All of the other trucks on the list use V-8 engines, with the exception of the Ford F-150 Limited SuperCrew 4?4 ($52,455), which is equipped with Ford?s 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost engine burning gasoline. Heavy Duty pickup trucks are exempt from having to display EPA fuel economy ratings (for now), but rest assured that the big 3500 range of pickup burns fuel at very rapid rates, most likely starting in the low teens.
