Who wants a career in insurance? ? Bankrate, Inc.

Did you ever wonder whether you'd be happy selling?homeowners insurance for a living? Or?perhaps working behind the scenes?as an underwriter, actuary or claims adjuster for an auto insurance company?

Now you can stop daydreaming and actually test your aptitude for and interest in a wide range of insurance positions on a new website called InsuranceCareers.org, sponsored by the Ohio Insurance Institute, a trade association based in Columbus, Ohio.

InsuranceCareers.org takes you behind the public face of the auto insurance agent?and homeowners insurance broker that most of us know and into the busy behind-the-scenes insurance?world few of us ever see. Many who wander into the back office find rewarding careers as actuaries, underwriters, IT directors, risk managers or marketing communications specialists.

It's immediately tempting to take the site's career survey. Based on your answers to four simple questions, you'll be guided to three insurance careers that most closely match your interests and education level. For example, if you're a "people person" with a high school degree, you'll best match such front-end careers as insurance agent, customer service representative or training and development manager. If you're the analytical type with a bachelor's degree, you'd probably be happier as?an actuary, IT or risk manager.

When you select one of your three best fits, you'll read a brief description of the job, skills required, salary range and potential career path.

What's especially engaging about the site is its use of dozens of two-minute video clips of actual insurance pros young and old?from each of 14 specialties who speak candidly about their backgrounds, how they came to work in insurance and the interesting opportunities therein. Many had never considered insurance before they stumbled?into the industry and, to?their surprise, found fulfilling careers.

Why consider a career in insurance now? InsuranceCareers.org summarizes it succinctly:

"Did you know that more than 60 percent of insurance professionals belong to the baby boomer generation (ages 45 and older)? Every seven seconds, a baby boomer turns 60, which means that more than half of the industry?s professionals will turn over by 2025. The evolving workforce will create thousands of job openings (or opportunities) for the next generation of professionals."
