Candidates for Honolulu mayor are making their final push

Mayoral candidates make final push for votes

HONOLULU ?

Just 48 hours are left to cast your vote in the general election, and the candidates for Honolulu mayor are making their final push.

There were a lot of hand shakes and hugs on Sunday. Mayoral candidates Kirk Caldwell and Ben Cayetano crossed paths just two days from election day attending the same Banquet in the Sheraton Waikiki hotel.

Caldwell said, "I'm out there earning every last vote I can get. I think it's going to be a close election. I'm taking nothing for granted, I can feel the momentum and I want to finish strong."

"It's always best to meet people face to face because I think that's the best kind of communication to try and get people to come over your way," said Cayetano.

Candidates said each handshake now could mean one more vote in this close race.

"The way we do that is by working, working, working. So I was up super early this morning (and) I'll be going until late tonight," said Caldwell.

Caldwell took pictures and watched performances at the Chinese Chamber of Commerce event.? While Cayetano walked the neighborhoods of Waipahu and hung flyers trying to sway voters his way.

It's the last efforts for the final stretch before booths close on Tuesday.?

Cayetano said, "We are really really happy that it's coming to an end but we also feel very optimistic that we are going to win."

"All I know is I'm going to work hard every minute I have while I'm awake up until the polls close on Tuesday," said Caldwell.?
