I think it is safe to say that this has been a long year. While I don?t want to be redundant or to rehash the many press stories on what the last year has meant in our community in the aftermath of the Sandusky scandal, the year mark is an important one, and it calls for some reflection.

?As I look back on the past year, I believe that the community responded in much the same way as victims of trauma do ? shock, response and eventually the search for meaning. For many in the community, the shock was that child sexual abuse happens at all and that it could happen here in Happy Valley, perpetrated and ignored by people we knew and trusted.
